What is current mlb captains?

As of 2021, Major League Baseball does not have an official captain designation. Unlike other sports leagues, such as the NHL and NBA, MLB does not have a tradition of naming captains for their teams. While some teams have had players in the past who have been viewed as leaders and role models, they were not officially designated as captains.

Additionally, MLB's Collective Bargaining Agreement prohibits teams from naming a captain during contract negotiations, as it is considered a potential bargaining chip. Therefore, it is unlikely that we will see the introduction of a captain designation in MLB in the near future.
